What is a Microdose?

A microdose is a tiny dose of a psychedelic substance intended to remain below the threshold of intoxication. People may notice an energy or mood boost, greater clarity, or more creativity. It is not a dose intended to produce hallucinations or pronounced changes in perception.

People also explore microdosing for its potential to support productivity and problem solving. These experiences are active areas of research.

When something needs to change

People often come to this work because something in daily life is no longer working: persistent low mood or anxiety, eating or drinking patterns they want to understand, difficulty exercising, or a sense of being caught in the same unproductive cycle.

You do not need to arrive with a clear vision of your future. Recognizing a pattern is a meaningful starting point. In our conversations, we examine what happens around it—the feelings, circumstances, expectations, and responses that keep bringing it back. What matters to you may become clearer through that work, rather than being something you must know at the outset.

From experience to understanding

Life habits, improved moods, and a more balanced life are central to my approach to microdose consulting. The substance is one part of a broader conversation about how we live, what we repeat, and what we are ready to reconsider.

A Jungian approach pays attention to the symbolic material of experience: dreams, images, emotions, and personal associations. Through dialogue, meditation, journaling, and Active Imagination, we explore what these experiences mean to you. Active Imagination is a practice of engaging consciously with inner images and allowing their meaning to unfold.

Integration brings that reflection back into daily life. We look at concrete changes in routines, relationships, creative work, and the way you respond to familiar difficulties. Psychedelics open doors, but the real work comes from integrating what psyche – and the universe - has revealed.

What the research tells us

Renewed interest in psychedelics has brought microdosing into scientific study as well as public conversation. It is important to distinguish research on very small doses from clinical studies using larger psilocybin doses with psychological support. Findings from one approach cannot simply be transferred to the other.

A 2022 observational study found greater improvements in mood and mental-health measures among psilocybin microdosers than among a comparison group over one month. Because participants were not randomly assigned to microdose or receive a placebo, the study cannot establish that microdosing caused those improvements.

A separate double-blind, placebo-controlled study found noticeable subjective effects but no evidence of improved well-being, creativity, or cognitive performance. Personal reports deserve attention; controlled research helps determine which effects are attributable to the substance, expectations, or other changes in a person’s life.

This is an evolving field. The National Institutes of Health notes that the safety and effectiveness of psilocybin microdosing remain uncertain. My approach makes room for both the questions people bring and the limits of what the evidence currently supports.
